DYBSA awarding two $500 scholarships; application deadline is March 15

The Delano Youth Baseball and Softball Association (DYBSA) announced it has established two $500 scholarships to be awarded to graduating seniors who have participated in the DYBSA programs.

“Each year, the Delano Youth Baseball and Softball Association provides organized baseball and softball programs to approximately 500 area youth between the ages of 5-18 years old,” said Bill Peterson, DYBSA President. “In addition to developing the baseball and softball skills of all association players, the DYBSA is also committed to empowering association participants to grow in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship and community involvement.”

As a result, the DYBSA will reward the $500 scholarships to graduating seniors who consistently displayed positive leadership and exceptional character, and excelled in the areas of academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and community involvement.

“We’re very excited about awarding these new scholarships for our area youth” said Dan Rasmussen, DYBSA Vice President “These scholarships aren’t about recognizing the best baseball or softball players in our community. Instead, they are about recognizing DYBSA participants who have consistently exemplified their best selves — not just on the playing field, but more importantly in and around our community.”

“Applicants only need to have played in our association a minimum of two years, regardless of level” added Meredith Huikko, DYBSA Board Member. “What we want to recognize with these scholarships are those participants who have consistently demonstrated good citizenship, positive leadership and exceptional character.”

The deadline for applying for the DYBSA scholarships is March 15.

Applicants must be in their senior year of high school at Delano High School or reside within the Delano School District if attending a different high school. Upon graduating from high school, the applicant must attend a two- or four-year college or university, trade school or technical school.
