Dragon boys blow past Waconia


LITCHFIELD – The Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato boys hockey team blew past the visiting Wildcats Tuesday, 7-1.

The Dragons improved to 8-6 overall on the season after scoring seven goals for the second straight game.

Corey Benda was the team’s leading scorer, with two goals and an assist. Up until Tuesday’s game, the junior defenseman had just one point on the season.

Also finishing with three points for the Dragons were:

• Brandt Pederson (1-2-3)

• Dylan Schutz (1-2-3)

• Orrin Grangroth (1-2-3)

• Blake Johnson (1-2-3)

• Paul Raisanen (0-3-3)

One game after his first shutout of the season in a 7-0 win over Willmar, LDC freshman goaltender Darby Halonen stopped 20-of-21 shots to pick up the victory. LDC outshot Waconia 37-21.

The Dragons finished with a season sweep of Waconia after defeating the Wildcats on the road 6-4 Dec. 14.
