WINSTED, MN – Organizers are seeking donations and volunteers for a meal packaging event, Food for Kids, to take place Wednesday, May 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the gym at Holy Trinity School in Winsted.
Holy Trinity School and the Catholic Order of Foresters (COF) are teaming up to bring a Food for Kidz food packaging drive back to Winsted.
Donations
Organizations that host a food packing event need to raise enough money to cover all of the supplies and food ingredients that are used that day.
Amazingly, Food for Kidz is able to keep their costs to only 15 cents per meal. The goal of organizers in Winsted this year is to raise $10,000, which would be enough to package about 67,000 meals.
Individuals, businesses, parishes, and local organizations are encouraged to support this project in whatever way they can – $15 buys 100 meals, $25 buys 166 meals, and a $100 donation would be enough to purchase ingredients for 667 meals.
To donate, send a check payable to Food for Kidz to Holy Trinity, PO Box 9, Winsted, MN 55395.
Volunteers
Volunteers of all ages are needed to make this event successful.
To volunteer, call Elaine Kahle at (320) 485-2182 ext. 2779, or Trish Guennigsman at (320) 286-5427.
Food for Kidz
Food for Kidz is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and its mission is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the US, and to feed God’s starving children throughout the world.
The founder of Kids Against Hunger, Richard Proudfit worked with food scientists to develop a formula of ingredients that would be easy to package, affordable to assemble, and have the nutritional value it needed to feed and save starving children across the world.
What they came up with was a highly-nutritious combination of vitamin-fortified rice, soy, and a vegetable mixture that is being packaged by volunteers all across America and Canada.
