Do you know what year this is?

gas.jpgThis Howard Lake picture is one of many photos assembled for the new history book in Howard Lake. But what caught my eye is the price of gas (60 cents per gallon!) at Skelly located along Highway 12 (just west of Munson Feeds, then and now). Does anyone remember when this could be? My number is 320-282-6558 or email news@heraldjournal.com.

UPDATE:  I ventured out and took a new picture of this scene in 2008.  Gas at Joe’s Sport Shop is $3.02 today (March 23).

Is that a 1977 Chevy Impala?
    If so, than Fall 1978.

Tony! Is that so? Then we can positively ID this picture. How exciting. By the way, I was nine years old at the time. Thanks . . .!

Skelly was acquired by Getty in 1977. Would the sign have been changed?

The average gas price was 60¢ in 1976 and it was 65¢ in 1978, so its the right period.

Can anyone identify the other cars to the left of the photo? Multiple points of reference could confirm the proposed date (1978) or identify another.

Also, could it be spring, before greening, rather than fall?
