COKATO – A late rally by the DC Chargers was not enough in a 41-27 loss to Waseca at home Friday night in the Section 2AAAA championship game.
The Chargers fell behind 34-3 late in the third quarter, but got back-to-back touchdowns from Blake Johnson (kickoff return, long touchdown pass) to pull to within 34-19 early in the fourth quarter.
But Waseca scored midway through the fourth, and the Chargers got a late touchdown with 1:12 left on a 75-yard pass from Paul Raisanen to Joel Selseth, but it was too little, too late.
The Chargers secondary struggled all game to contain the Willingham brothers at wide receiver (Malik and Kyreese), as the two combined for a number of long receptions.
DC finished the season 8-2.
