City of Howard Lake now enforcing watering ban

HOWARD LAKE – Howard Lake’s Assistant City Administrator Meagan Theisen said the city is now enforcing a watering ban due to near capaticy pumping at the water treatment plant this week.

“Our water treatment plant has a daily pumping capacity of 400,000 gallons,” Theisen said.

Tuesday, June 8, the plant pumped 375,000 gallons.  Wednesday June 9, the plant pumped 389,000 gallons; and Thursday, June 10, the plant pumped 361,000 gallons.

“We know the temperatures are extreme, but conserving water right now is essential,” Theisen said. “The City of Howard Lake is now enforcing a watering ban, along with many cities across Minnesota.”

This ban includes: no watering of lawns, washing vehicles, filling pools, or recreational uses of water.

New sod lawns, vegetable gardens, are exempt from the watering rules. Refrain from watering between the hours of 9 am and 7 pm.

“Watering bans or restrictions are not uncommon, even outside of extreme heat and low rain levels,” Theisen said. “Many cities, including large cities such as Eden Prairie, Plymouth, and Burnsville, follow the odd/even water restrictions year-round.”

The city appreciates everyone’s cooperation.
