NEW LONDON — Tate Link scored his fifth touchdown of the game with 12.5 seconds left to complete a last-minute comeback in DC’s 33-29 victory at New London-Spicer Wednesday.
The Chargers held a 26-14 lead midway through the third quarter, but the Wildcats scored two straight touchdowns to take a 29-26 lead with 5:37 left.
Things looked bleak for DC as they fumbled in their ensuing possession. However, the defense secured a huge stop with just over two minutes left on 4th-and-1 near midfield, and the Chargers were able to drive for the game-winning touchdown, getting a huge 4th-and-8 first down on a pass from Caleb Thinesen to Jackson Schrupp.
Link finished with 38 carries for 247 yards, and all five DC touchdowns. Thinesen had 50 yards rushing, and was 3-for-3 through the air.
NLS’ Mason Delzer had 152 yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns, while Bryce Christensen added two rushing TDs as well.
