ROCKFORD – Last season, the DC baseball team ended up as the #14 seed in Section 5AA, and shocked the section with a first-round victory over #3 Providence Academy.
Coming in as the #13 seed this season, the Chargers very nearly pulled off a similar feat, but came up just short in a 6-4 loss to #4 Rockford on the road Thursday, May 26.
“Give our guys credit, we kept fighting and gave them more than they wanted,” said DC head coach Cole Flick.
Unfortunately, the same thing that plagued the team during the regular season – untimely mistakes and strikeouts – came back to hurt them in the playoff game.
The Chargers gave up three unearned runs, and fell behind 5-1 after five innings. They rallied four three runs to pull to within 5-4, but could get no closer.
