Two people injured in crash near St. Michael

ST. MICHAEL, MN — Two people suffered minor injuries when their vehicles collided in Wright County the morning of May 13.

The Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) said it happened on Highway 241 at around 10 a.m.

MSP said a car driven by 30-year-old Michel Montoya Corona of Osseo was westbound and an S-U-V driven by 59-year-old Jerelyn Essig of Aurora was eastbound when they collided. Montoya Corona was taken to Maple Grove Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Essig suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

The crash happened on Highway 241 near Larabee Avenue NE in St. Michael.

 

Concerns over teacher turnover and budget refinancing main topics at HLWW School Board meeting

The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) School Board meeting began with visitors raising questions and comments Monday night.

During this time, George Montgomery, a social studies teacher at HLWW, addressed the school board about the issue of losing teachers. He urged the board to investigate why experienced teachers with nearly 20 years of service are leaving to start fresh elsewhere, sacrificing their seniority, status, and established careers.

Lester Prairie City Council declares May 17 Troy Feltmann Day in the City of Lester Prairie

The Lester Prairie City Council took time at its meeting Tuesday night to honor Troy Feltmann.
Feltmann was a member of the city’s park board, co-chair of the city’s Prairie Days festival, member of several organizations, and a constant fixture working or volunteering at events throughout the city passed away May 1.

Lifelong Howard Lake resident honored with the Star of Life Award for contributions to EMS

Lifelong Howard Lake resident Stephen Berg was recently recognized for his contributions to the emergency medical service (EMS) field with the  Star of Life Award.
Berg began his EMS career in 1978 when he volunteered for Howard Lake Fire Department and Ambulance Service.

Semi hits parked car on side of road near Otsego

On May 10 at approximately 8:06 p.m, an incident occurred on Eastbound Interstate 94 at milepost 200 in Otsego, Wright County. According to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP), a Buick Enclave was parked on the shoulder of the highway when a Volvo semi collided with it.

The driver of the Buick Enclave was identified as Nathan Ruben Brenneman, a 59-year-old male from Fargo, ND. The first passenger in the Buick was identified as Susan Ann Brenneman, a 58-year-old female from Fargo, ND. Both Nathan and Susan were wearing their seat belts, and there was no evidence of alcohol involvement in the incident.

The third passenger in the Buick was identified as Amber Rae Vaughn, a 38-year-old female from Saint Cloud, MN. Amber suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital. It is unclear whether she was wearing her seat belt or not.

The driver of the Volvo semi was identified as Musad Gameel Nasser, a 34-year-old male from Coldwater, MI. He did not suffer any injuries and did not require transportation to any healthcare facility. He was wearing his seat belt and there was no evidence of alcohol involvement.

Outside agencies, including Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Albertville Fire, and Allina Ambulance, responded to the incident.

The road conditions at the time of the incident were dry.

Annandale motorcycle driver seriously injured in Wright Co.

On the evening of May 5, an Annandale man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Wright County; the crash happened just before 6 p.m.
The Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) said 39-year-old Jedd Johannes was taken to HCMC in Minneapolis for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The MSP said Johannes was Southbound on Highway 24 when the motorcycle left the roadway at 91st Street and crashed.
The Patrol says he was not wearing a helmet.
