Emerald Ash Borer poses a threat to ash trees across McLeod County

A recent press release from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer (EAB) in McLeod County for the first time ever.
There are now 42 counties in the state, including McLeod, with EAB.
EAB is a small, invasive beetle that feeds on green, white, and black ash trees. It was first discovered in Minnesota in 2009.

Former LP grad finishes summer internship with NASA

NASA was giving college students the opportunity of a lifetime this past summer, and a former Lester Prairie graduate decided to seize it.
Emily Rademacher had the opportunity this summer to be an intern for NASA where she studied earth and atmospheric science.

Winsted approves purchase of fire department grass rig

FOR SUBSCRIBERS:

Winsted Fire Chief Troy Scherping and First Captain Aaron Millerbernd attended Tuesday’s work session to present a proposal to replace the department’s 1988 truck.
What is unusual about this proposal is that, rather than ordering a truck complete from a vendor, the department will act as general contractor, purchasing the chassis on the state bid price and ordering the other components, specifying equipment that best fits Winsted’s needs.

Winsted welcomes the first of two murals to come this year

Winsted librarian Lisa Ebert and local resident Sherry Sundbland recently teamed up to create a “love letter” to the City of Winsted.
Their epistle took the form of a mural that can be seen on the front wall of the library.

AWI Manufacturing announces plans for a 10,000 square foot expansion

AWI Manufacturing has a long history of growth in  McLeod County, and the company plans to continue that expansion by adding 10,000 square feet to its 230th Street facility near Winsted.
The expansion is being made to accommodate the company’s fast-growing drain division.

HLWW to pursue increased operating levy this fall

FOR SUBSCRIBERS:

After many months of discussion, the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted School Board has decided to hold an election this fall on an operating levy that will increase the school’s general education revenue by $600 per pupil.
At its regular meeting Monday, the board unanimously adopted a resolution that outlines the details of the operating levy.
