Holy Trinity celebrates Catholic Schools Week

coaWINSTED, MN – Holy Trinity Catholic School, as well as Catholic schools throughout the nation, will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week Sunday through Saturday, Jan. 29 through Feb. 4.

The theme for 2012 is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service.”

“This week we observe Catholic Schools Week as a way of celebrating our parish’s long commitment to the education of young people,” Holy Trinity Pastor Fr. Tony Stubeda said.

Sixty-year trustee to retire from St. Mary’s of Czestochowa

walterWATERTOWN, MN – From cutting grass to keeping track of bank deposits, there isn’t much Watertown resident Walter Swartzer hasn’t done as trustee of St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano.

“It’s all the behind-the-scenes things that people don’t see,” fellow trustee Don Gabrelcik said. “You can work half a day on something and people don’t even know. Things just get done.”

Swartzer, who has been a volunteer trustee for 60 years, will be retiring Sunday, Feb. 5. A reception to honor his service will take place after that day’s 8:30 a.m. Mass. Refreshments will be provided.

KratchWATERTOWN, MN – Four years ago, leading into Super Bowl XLII between the Giants and Patriots, the Herald Journal featured Watertown’s Bob Kratch, who played in previous Super Bowls for both teams. The Giants and Patriots will again play for the Lombardi Trophy this Sunday, so the Herald Journal again caught up with Kratch to talk about his Super Bowl days.

Urdahl’s third novel depicts Minnesota’s history with the Dakota

McLEOD COUNTY, MN – “This is the most tragic event in our state’s history, but it’s still not given the recognition it should nationally,” said State Representative and author Dean Urdahl (R-Grove City) about the US-Dakota War of 1862.

Urdahl presented his third historical novel about the US-Dakota War at the McLeod County Historical Museum Jan. 15.
