WAVERLY, MN – Waverly maintenance supervisor Jim Woitalla said he hopes the new playground at Legion Memorial Park near Waverly Lake will be completed by Memorial Day. Footings were installed recently, and the playground area was elevated due to the high lake level.

Memorial Day programs set for Monday, May 27

WINSTED, LESTER PRAIRIE, WAVERLY, NEW GERMANY, MAYER, MN – Area Memorial Day services are set for the morning of Monday, May 27, giving residents a variety of options to remember fallen soldiers. Look for full schedules in the Monday, May 20 edition of the Herald Journal.
Winsted
Memorial Day observance in Winsted will begin at 9 a.m. with a Mass at Holy Trinity.
A Naval tribute at Mill Reserve Park will take place at 9:30 a.m.
Members of American Legion Post 407 will then participate in a program at the cemetery at 10 a.m.
Waverly
Charles Claessens Legion Post 305 and Auxiliary Unit will observe Memorial Day with services Monday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. in Railroad Park in Waverly. All veterans are welcome to march in the parade which will assemble in front of the Village Hall at 10 a.m.
Howard Lake
Members of American Legion Post 145 will assemble at the St. James Lutheran Church parking lot at 9 a.m. and then march to the city cemetery, where the program will begin at 9:15 a.m.
Lester Prairie
The Ray Kirkpatrick American Legion Post 463 in Lester Prairie will host a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Service Member Memorial in Central Park.
New Germany/Mayer
The New Germany American Legion’s Memorial Day program will begin at 9 a.m. at the Crow River Cemetery in New Germany.
At 9:20 a.m., the group will move to the St. Mark Cemetery in New Germany.
At 9:40 a.m., it will move to St. John’s Cemetery in Hollywood Township.
The group will move to Methodist Cemetery in Mayer at 10 a.m.
It will then move to Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer at 10:05 a.m., where a program will take place.
Winsted’s Alan Thompson named MN State Trooper of the Year

WINSTED, MN – Alan Thompson was honored April 29 as the Minnesota State Trooper of the Year, after being nominated by Lts. Chris Edstrom and Tiffani Nielson.
According to the MN State Patrol, Thompson has “consistently exceeded performance standards,” and is “regarded as a respected resource among the troopers and other agencies he works beside.”

Therapeutic animal massage now being offered in Howard Lake

HOWARD LAKE, MN – Jenny DeLorme will be offering her therapeutic animal massage services in Howard Lake one Saturday per month at Cattail Corners. She is pictured with her dog, Kaiser, whose severe arthritis is helped by massage.
