McLEOD COUNTY, MN – McLeod County Horticulture Day will take place Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Best Western Victorian Inn (1000 Highway 7 West) in Hutchinson, KDUZ reported.

Breakfast buffet in HL Sunday

The Howard Lake Lions will host a freewill donation breakfast buffet Sunday, Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lions Hall, 625 8th St., Howard Lake. The buffet will include scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, milk, juice, and coffee.

HLWW Snow Fest coronation tonight

HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, WINSTED, MN – The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted School School District begins its Snow Fest celebration today, with coronation of the Snow King and Queen tonight, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in the HLWW Laker Theatre.

The youth group at St. Paul Lutheran Church will host a spaghetti dinner Sunday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Tickets are $7; children age 5 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit the youth mission trip to Sawyer Air Force Base in Gwinn, MI.

LP Lions pancake breakfast Sunday

Lester Prairie Lions will serve a pancake breakfast Sunday, Feb. 5 at Lester Prairie City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.
Proceeds will go to support community projects. Tickets are $6 for ages 13 and older, $4 for ages 6-12, and ages 5 and under are free.
The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, toast, juice, and coffee.

SFA looking for farms to participate in Festival of Farms July 14

WRIGHT, CARVER COUNTIES, MN –The Sustainable Farming Association (SFA) of Minnesota is looking for farms to participate in the 2012 Festival of Farms Saturday, July 14.

This year, the organization is hoping to offer a “buffet” of locations all across the Crow River and metro area. The idea is that each farm would offer tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with “open farm” time between. Not only would it be a time for farmers to educate others, but also an opportunity to offer farm products for sale.

Festival of Farms is a statewide event, and SFA would provide promotion, a small honorarium, and materials for each farm. If any Crow River sustainable farmers would be interested in hosting, contact events coordinator Jerry Ford at (320) 543-3394 or jerry@sfa-mn.org.

Independence Party caucus in Buffalo Feb. 7

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – For the first time, the Independence Party caucus for Wright County citizens will take place at the American Legion in Buffalo, 304 10th Ave. S.

Doors will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, with the caucus beginning at 7 p.m.

HLWW hosting one-act play competition Jan. 28

HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, WINSTED, MN – Eight area schools are participating in the 2A Subsection-7 one-act play competition hosted by the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted drama club Saturday, Jan. 28.

Those competing at HLWW’s high school auditorium include Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity, Glencoe-Silver Lake, HLWW, Annandale, Kimball, Maple Lake, New Century Charter School (Hutchinson), and Norwood Young America.

The first play begins at 8:30 a.m. Each play is to be no longer than 35 minutes, with 10 minutes set-up time.

There will be a short break for lunch about 12:30 p.m., with afternoon shows beginning at 1 p.m. The final performance begins at 4 p.m., and an award ceremony will follow.

The contest is open to the public, and there is no admission fee for the day. Concessions for breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be available, with proceeds benefiting the HLWW Letter Club.

Anyone who would like to know the time of a specific school’s performance should contact a cast/crew member, the director, or the high school office of the school of interest.

Judges for the one-act competition – Don Fosburgh of St. Peter, Mary Trosvig of St. Michael, and Curt Sorensen of Painsville – were selected by region 2A executive secretary Sharon Euerle.

Chili feed Jan. 21 in Winsted

Lake Mary VFW 9232 and Auxiliary will host a chili feed Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Winsted American Legion from 4 to 7 p.m.
Menu includes chili, homemade corn bread muffins with honey butter, garlic bread, veggies and dip, and homemade desserts.
Advance tickets are $8, or $9 at the door. Tickets for children ages 6 to 10 are $5. Advance tickets are available from Rhonda Decker, Mary Quast, or Amy Gatz at Flagship Bank Winsted.
