HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, WINSTED, MN – The final meeting will take place tonight (Tuesday, May 14) at 6 p.m. at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Middle School commons to allow the public access to building information prior to the upcoming vote, which will take place Thursday, May 23.
Information regarding the construction of a new middle school, remodeling the current elementary schools, and demolishing a portion of the current middle school will be offered at the meeting.
HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, WINSTED, MN – The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted School Board will be discussing construction management firms, and approving one to lead the project to build a middle school and remodel the elementary schools at tonight’s meeting at 6 p.m. Other items on the agenda include curriculum reports, increasing the price of school lunches, extending the school year due to two snow days in April, and controlled access at school entrances.
Winsted Lake Watershed Association will host its third annual plant sale 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 16, Friday, May 17, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
The sale is located in the white garage next to Winsted City Hall, across from Holy Trinity High School.
Plant donations of any type will also be accepted before or during the sale. Pots are available at the Schmitz house, 121 Lake Ave. E., Winsted.
Families looking for a fun outing Thursday, May 16 are encouraged to stop by St. Mary’s Care Center’s Walk of Hope.
The fourth annual event will take place at the Garden House at St. Mary’s Care Center, located at 300 Fairlawn Ave. W. in Winsted.
There will be free hot dogs grilled by the Winsted Lions, snacks, and beverages, all donated by Nor-Son Builders in Brainerd and B & B Tire and Auto in Winsted.
The 1.4-mile walk is a fundraiser to help support the memory care unit at St. Mary’s.
The walk is $10, which includes refreshments. For an extra $5, participants can also get a T-shirt. Children under 12 walk free.
Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., and Mayor Steve Stotko will start the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Students from Holy Trinity School, and members of the Winsted Police Department and Winsted Fire Department will lead the walk.
WHAT UP will sponsor music and a movie at Mill Reserve Park, Winsted Friday, May 10. Holy Trinity band will perform at 7:30 p.m., followed by the movie Grease at 8:30 p.m.
In case of bad weather the event will move to the Winsted Fire Hall. Chairs or blankets are encouraged.
Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted FFA Chapter will conduct a plant sale Friday, May 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school greenhouse.
Plants were grown and maintained by high school students. A large variety of vegetable and flower plants including hanging baskets are available.
