DELANO — Delano coach Terry Techam predicted Chaska would be a tough opponent Tuesday night when it visited the Tiger Activity Center, and he was correct.

The Hawks swooped into Delano and claimed an 84-83 win.

The combination of Cole Nicholson and Parker Bjorklund propelled Chaska, as the two combined for 55 points.

The square-shouldered Nicholson tore up the Tigers’ paint defenders for 32 points Bjorklund drove and spotted up for 23 points.

The game may have gotten too far out of hand for the Tigers in the first half if not for the play of Calvin Wishart, who scored 22 of his team’s 35 points in the first 18 minutes of play.

Wishart was just as big in the second half, and recorded a triple-double, finishing with 43 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Chaska improved to 9-2. The Hawks are ranked No. 8 in the Jan. 3 poll.

Delano, which is No. 9 in the poll, dropped to 8-3 entering Thursday’s home game against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

The Tigers go to Prior Lake Saturday for an afternoon game, and, next week, they host Sauk Rapids-Rice Tuesday, Jan. 16, and go to New Prague Friday, Jan. 19, for the Wright County Conference opener.
