Weekend blaze damages several buildings outside of Waverly

A fire caused significant destruction to three buildings and multiple vehicles on a property located west of Waverly Saturday evening, according to Josh Reed, assistant Fire Chief of the Waverly Fire Department.

City of Winsted hires area native Neil Schlagel as its new city administrator

The City of Winsted is gearing up for a period of stability and long-term planning with the appointment of Neil Schlagel as its new city administrator.
The City of Winsted has gone through its fair share of city administrators over the years. But with Schlagel’s hiring, it hopes to establish a strong and lasting leadership presence. Currently completing his onboarding hours, Schlagel is set to officially assume the role of Winsted city administrator June 12.

HLWW FFA team competes at the 2023 Minnesota FFA convention

16 teams and three individuals from the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted FFA Chapter recently made its seemingly annual appearance at the Minnesota FFA State Convention, which took place April 23-25.
The convention occurred at the MN State Fairgrounds and the University of MN campus.

HL Council approves financing for the new library and exclusive agreement for municipal liquor store

Shannon Sweeney, an associate with David Drown Associates, Inc, (DDA) was on hand to talk to the Howard Lake City Council about financing for the new library at its meeting Monday night.
He told the council that the company had solicited proposals for construction financing for the library project as directed by the council. The project is being paid for with grants and loans from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). The USDA and the MDE grants require the city to obtain temporary financing during construction because the city can only close on the grant from the MDE or the loan from USDA once the project is essentially complete.

Dashir Management Services secures contract extension with Lester Prairie Public Schools

Lester Prairie Public School will continue to utilize Dashir Management Services, Inc. as its facility maintenance provider after unanimously agreeing to a new contract at its regular meeting May 15.
According to its website, Dashir Management partners with school districts to provide comprehensive facility management services while saving them money.
