Today our school joins 27,000 schools nationwide in the Pennies for Patients program.  For the next few weeks we will help people who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your classroom’s collection box. Remember that every penny counts!  Our school goal is to raise $2,019.

Do you know what blood cancer is?  It is a disease that occurs in the blood.  Our blood is made up of three types of cells:  red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.  Blood cancer crowds out the healthy blood cells so they can’t do their jobs.  Do you know what the treatments for cancer are called? Tune in tomorrow to see if you’re correct, and keep those donations coming!

The Lester Prairie School is participating in the Pennies for Patients/Leukemia Lymphoma Society fundraiser, raising money for blood cancer research. We are starting on January 14th and going until February 12th. This organization helps to find a cure for childhood blood cancer. Did you know that breakthroughs in blood cancer research are now being applied to other kinds of cancers and serious diseases? This is all because of the support received by the donations to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and other cancer research organizations. We have various ways to raise money. We will have class competitions, online donations https://events.lls.org/pages/mn/LesterPrairieSchool-2019,   dress up days, selling suckers at home events, and pie-ing of the teachers. Together we can all change cancer!
