Home ownership center to host phone seminar

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The Minnesota Home Ownership Center will host a telephone seminar Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Topics covered will include options for “work out” with a lender, benefits of speaking with a mortgage support advisor, and other information regarding mortgages.

MEA bash for youth will be Oct. 17 in Glencoe

GLENCOE, MN – Wondering how your middle and high school students will stay busy during MEA?
The Tobacco Free Youth (TFY) Crew will host a MEA bash Friday, Oct. 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will take place at the Panther Field House at the GSL High School in Glencoe, and all students in grades 6-12 from McLeod County are encouraged to attend.
Free bus/van transportation will be provided from McLeod West, Brownton Campus, Hutchinson High School main entrance, and Lester Prairie High School east side.

Hawks and owls to be displayed at park Oct. 18

MAPLE LAKE, MN – Lake Maria State Park is home to several species of hawks and owls.
Some of them will be on display Saturday, Oct. 18, when the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota visits the park.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and will take place in the outdoor council-seating area adjacent to the nature center, weather permitting.
“Several hawks and owls visit or reside in the park, and they include the redtailed hawk, the sharp-shinned hawk, the broadwing hawk. the red-shouldered hawk, the great horned owl, the barred owl, the screech owl and the snowy owl,” said Park Manager Mark Crawford.

Radio talk show host to speak at Crown College

SAINT BONIFACIUS, MN – Radio talk show host Jason Lewis (KTLK 100.3 FM) will speak on political discernment at Crown College in Saint Bonifacius Friday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
“Discern 2008,” an event which seeks to help students wade through the local and national election processes, will take place on Crown’s St. Bonifacius campus during the week of Oct. 13 through 17. Apart from Lewis, six other elected officials or political candidates will engage students, faculty, and staff on why they should care, vote, or even get involved in today’s politics.
All events will be in the Crown College chapel and are open to the public. Crown College is located at 8700 College View Drive in Saint Bonifacius.

Prescription drug web site available

SILVER LAKE, MN – Affordable medicine has become a political catch-phrase, but what many people don’t realize is they already are eligible for prescription drug assistance. A recently launched web site, www.awarerx.org, provides this information as part of a new awareness campaign.
A number of pharmaceutical companies have programs that can help reduce the cost of your medications. You may visit the AWARxE site for information that can help make prescription drugs more affordable. Just click on the “Affording Your Medications” section at the lower-left part of your screen; links to several providers will appear.

Medical caregiver kits assembled in Howard Lake

HOWARD LAKE, MN – A group of volunteers, coordinated by Open Arms Mercy Ministry, met in the Howard Lake Community Room Sept. 20 to assemble medical caregiver kits that will be shipped overseas to volunteer AIDS caregivers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Arrangements were made with a medical supply company for a bulk shipment of items that the volunteers divided up into smaller kits.
The kits were shipped to World Vision, a Christian relief agency that will distribute them.
Steve Basney, pastor of Open Arms Community Church in Howard Lake, explained, “This was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s unconditional love in a practical fashion. AIDS is by far the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time, and the church needs to be on the forefront of addressing this crisis in a compassionate manner.”
