Winsted collection sites needed for 5th Annual McLeod County Food Drive Challenge!
February 6, 2012 by Linda Scherer

WINSTED, MN – Plans are underway for next month’s Food Drive Challenge, which is designed to assist the McLeod County Emergency Food Shelf with the efforts to feed the hungry in McLeod County. The Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce, Hutchinson Area Chamber of Commerce, Lester Prairie Business Association, Winsted Chamber of Commerce, and Silver Lake Business Association are sponsoring this friendly challenge with goal of raising more than 100,000 pounds of donations during the month of March.
Based on the per capita challenge, Plato won last year’s challenge by collecting nearly fourteen pounds per resident. Silver Lake claimed second place with roughly five pounds donated per resident. Close behind in third place was Stewart with an average of four pounds donated per resident. In total, McLeod County businesses and residents donated 20,000 more pounds in 2011 compared to the previous year.
Donations collected during the month of March are matched by Minnesota Food Share Network making this a critical time to restock the shelves at the local food shelf. Winsted businesses and organizations wanting to participate as a collection site for the upcoming challenge should contact Jeff Campbell at the Winsted Area Chamber of Commerce at 612-554-7439 or info@winstedchamber.com.

WINSTED, MN – Winsted City Council’s regular council meeting is scheduled for tonight, Monday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at city hall. On the agenda, the council will consider replacing a previously approved specialized aviation service operation agreement authorizing Darrin Mason to operate a flight instruction business at he Winsted Municipal Airport; it will consider an address change for the previous Vitran facility now owned by K-Way Express to be changed from 1300 Sixth Avenue to 1300 Sixth Street South; and consider a request from the Winsted Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a generator with light kit, which would mean trucks wouldn’t have to get close to an accident or fire scene to provide lighting.
Two reports will be given at the end of the meeting – Dale Maus will give a report on the Winsted Lake Watershed Association and city clerk Deb Boelter will give a department report.
