Cardboard, newspaper, card stock, phone books, and any recyclable paper can be dropped off in the truck in the church parking lot. Pizza boxes and cardboard with food on it are not accepted. WINSTED, MN – The Winsted Economic Development Authority (EDA) will host an informational open house at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 in the Vollmer Room at Winsted City Hall to share information about establishing a community foundation in Winsted.
HOWARD LAKE, MN – The Howard Lake-Waverly Winsted back-to-school open house will take place Wednesday, Aug. 28. Middle school is 4:40 to 7:30 p.m., with new student orientation at 5:30 p.m.; high school is 5 to 7 p.m. with new student orientation at 6:15 p.m.
LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – The Lester Prairie back-to-school open house will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the school. Conflicting information published previously showed two different dates.
WINSTED, MN – Veterans and their families are encouraged to purchase a plaque to be installed at the Winsted Veterans Memorial. Plaques are available to honor any veteran, living or deceased. The cost of each plaque is $150, and proceeds go toward final construction costs and ongoing maintenance of the memorial. There will be a dedication ceremony Sunday, Sept. 15. The deadline to purchase plaques to have them in place for the dedication is Saturday, Aug. 17. However, plaques for the memorial can still be purchased after that time.
WINSTED, MN – The annual Winsted Summer Festival, now hosted by the Winsted Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10 in Mill Reserve Park. The new two-day format will include a special fireworks show over Winsted Lake Friday, with fireworks launched from a raft and from shore. The grand parade will take place Saturday at 6:30 p.m. This is a significant change, because the parade has taken place Sundays for the past 45 years, according to the chamber.
