Montrose man injured in possible DUI crash

Two people, including 31-year old Michael Schug of Montrose, suffered life-threatening injuries during a traffic collision in Rockford Township Friday, Dec. 23.

Per the Minnesota State Patrol’s incident report, the crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 25 and 10th street southeast near Buffalo, where Schug’s Dodge Caravan collided with a Jeep Cherokee operated by 64-year old Fred Schimdt of St. Bonifacius.

Officers from the Buffalo Police Department and Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash.

The airbags of each vehicle deployed during the crash, and Schug and Schmidt sustained life-threatening injuries, prompting first responders to transport the individuals to hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Schug was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, while Schmidt was taken to North Memorial Hospital. Their current conditions are unknown.

Both drivers were reported to have been wearing their seatbelts; however, the report indicated that Schmidt was under the influence of alcohol, which is suspected to have played a role in the crash that remains under investigation.
