State Rep. Tom Emmer of Delano has been officially endorsed by the Republican Party as a candidate for Minnesota governor.
Previously, delegates to the party’s state convention in Minneapolis gave 53 percent of their first ballots to Emmer and 43 percent to Seifert, with other candidates splitting the rest. It takes at least 60 percent of the 1,988 voting delegates to win endorsement.
Marty Seifert has vowed to leave the race instead of moving on to an August primary, which will offer a three-way Democratic race. Read more

WINSTED, MN – The Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs baseball team was scheduled to host West Lutheran today (Friday) in Winsted at 4:30 p.m.
However, due to the rain and the wet conditions, the game has been postponed. No make-up date was known at this time.
LP/HT will next be in action Monday, May 3 against Trinity in Lester Prairie at 4:30 p.m.
Two people killed in accident Thursday on Highway 7 near Cosmos

MEEKER COUNTY, MN – Two people were killed on Highway 7 east of Cosmos last Thursday when a semitrailer crossed the center line, broadsided another semi, then caught on fire and struck a third vehicle.
The accident occurred around 7:25 a.m., according to the State Patrol.
A 1996 Freight Tractor TRK driven by Christopher Dorholt, 50, of Bloomington, was eastbound when he crossed over the centerline and sideswiped a 2003 STE Tractor TRK driven by William Schultz, 53, of Stillwater, who was traveling westbound. Read more
Waverly banker issues challenge for new hospice

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – Waverly banker Birdie Jackson has a challenge: she will match up to $20,000 for every dollar that is contributed toward plans to build a hospice in Buffalo.
“It’s a nice project,” Jackson commented. “It’s certainly needed in our area.” If completed, it will be the first of its kind in the county, as a residential hospice facility. Read more

WATERTOWN, MN – Two road construction projects in the City of Watertown will result in detours for local motorists this summer.
The first involves work on Highway 25 from Bickford Street to White Street.
Watertown City Engineer David Martini of Bolton & Menk said the project involves upgrading the street with the addition of turn lanes, curb and gutter, storm sewer, and a paved sidewalk on the north side of Highway 25. Read more
