WINSTED, MN – The Winsted airport is an exciting place to be on most days, with the chance to see planes fly in and take off.
Flying is not a new means of transportation, but still a unique way to get around for the majority of the general population.
The Winsted Airport commission, hangar owners, and pilots who use the Winsted Airport would like to give everyone an opportunity to see the airport from their perspective, possibly even from the air.
They have planned an airport appreciation and open house for Saturday, Oct. 17 beginning at 11 a.m.
“This will give the residents a chance to see what is happening out here,” Airport Commissioner Russ Paschke said.
Aircraft and classic cars will be on display. Tours of the hangars will be offered, and airplane rides will be available for $10.
Sloppy joes, chips, and a beverage can be found in hangar number 43. A free will offering will be accepted to cover the cost of the food and to benefit the Winsted Airport.
A city-wide drill will take place at 1 p.m. on the runway, involving a Cessna 210.
The Winsted Police Department, Winsted Fire Department, and the Waconia Ambulance will be present for the drill, and a Life Link helicopter will fly in.
Following the drill, all emergency vehicles and the helicopter will be on display.
Just a few reminders at the open house
• No pets allowed at the airport, according to FAA regulations;
• Children should be accompanied by a parent;
• All of the hangars and equipment on display is privately owned and should be treated with respect.

WATERTOWN, MN – After six residential burglaries in Watertown during the month of September, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office is urging citizens to take steps to protect their property. Four of the burglaries took place after Sept. 25. The first, which happened Sept. 8, doesn’t appear to be connected with the other burglaries, according to a report from the sheriff’s office, but the Sept. 13 burglary has the same pattern as the others.
Common items stolen include change, money jars, and electronics such as IPods, MP3 players, and a computer. Two vehicles, which were later recovered, were also stolen. One of the vehicles was used during a burglary.

MAP KEY: This map shows recent thefts in Watertown. The five red circles represent the September burglaries that appear to be related, while the blue circles represent thefts from motor vehicles that occurred in recent months. The seven-digit number near the circles is the incident number.
