Large items needed for mercy trip to Mississippi

Minnesota Disaster Relief of Cokato is taking two trips (March 6 and 21) to Mississippi to help out with people still in need from Hurricane Katrina. If you have any items that would be useful, and would like to donate, please contact Brad Curtis at (320) 237-6815 and they can arrange either a pickup of these items or a drop off. In the past, these trips have attracted people from the local area and in general receive an outpouring of regional support. Read more

A four-year-old Winsted girl, identified only as Hailey of Winsted, is featured in a slide show posted Friday by WCCO posted online of the recent snowstorm.  To view the slide show, click here.

Comments continue to pour into  the Forum regarding suggested cuts for the Lester Prairie School District.  A total of 734 votes have been cast so far (about 183 people picking the top four cuts to make).  As of Friday nights, comments continue to come in, with the special meeting set for 7 p.m. Monday, March 2 in the Lester Prairie School gym. Winsted Hardware named business of the year in Winsted

hardwTom Ollig, president of the Winsted Area Chamber of Commerce, presented Katy Born and Greg Gerhman of Winsted Hardware with the 2008 Business of the Year award. Katy and Greg were honored during the annual Winsted Chamber of Commerce banquet Feb. 21 at the Blue Note.

About 90 business owners, guests, and city officials attended the event, which also featured a roast of Bob and Don Bayerl, past owners of the Blue Note.

Bakebergs working on ‘Breakfast’ event

farmA morning of fun on the farm at Goldview Farms, owned by Butch, Faye, and Pat Bakeberg, is scheduled Saturday, June 20 from 7 to 11 a.m. All-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage will be served along with beverages. Speakers, activities, and tours of the farm will be provided, with the mission of educating the public about where dairy foods come from and how farms work.

How to sponsor the event

Contributions are due Friday March 20.

Lester Prairie country girl cuts CD

cdLester Prairie resident Phyllis Hummel’s new CD, “Singing Country,” is available at the Dodge House, Angvall Hardware & Mercantile, the Hair Company, and Prairie Market in Lester Prairie, at Curves and Distinctive Dental Services in Winsted, and at Dostal Electronics in Hutchinson.

Hummel will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from CDs sold in Lester Prairie to the Lester Prairie Education Foundation (she will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from CDs sold in Winsted to Alpha programs in Winsted.

The CDs are also available by mailing a check for $11 to Phyllis Hummel, PO Box 494, Lester Prairie, MN 55354.
