Local waste facility closed until Jan. 2

The McLeod County Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed from Dec. 15 to Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 for annual maintenance and year-end processing. Regular operating hours (Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will resume Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009.

Authorized staff will not be available to collect hazardous waste from the public; no exceptions will be made during this closure. The McLeod County Solid Waste Management Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hutchinson man stole from his own home

A 19-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested after allegedly breaking into his own home and stealing a car, jewelry, some money and other items, reported WCCO.

Hutchinson Police told WCCO that the man lured his other family members away Friday afternoon by making a dinner reservation for them in Chanhassen. Then, while they were away, he broke into the home and took off in the car.  He’s now in the McLeod County jail, awaiting possible burglary and auto theft charges.

Registration open for ‘Princess for a Day’

Early copy needed for newspaper

Due to the holiday press schedule, early newspaper copy is needed again this week. Shopper ads are due by noon Tuesday, Dec. 30. The newspaper deadline is noon Wednesday, Dec. 31, with final classifieds being taken until 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2.
