This mystery photo was taken by Cassie Houston in a public place somewhere in the surrounding communities.

Do you know what it is and where it was taken? If you know the answer e-mail Cassie Houston at houston7@broadband-mn.com. Winners will be entered into a monthly drawing for a free one-year subscription to the Herald Journal.

We’ll publish the correct answer – and the name of the person who first identifies the mystery photo – in next week’s HJ Blog.

The identity of the Mystery Photo in the Oct. 27 issue of the Herald Journal was identified by Ron Miller of Howard Lake as the turtle painted on the concrete in Howard Lake for the Turtle Races during Good Neighbor Days.

WACONIA, MN – More than 100 people gathered at the site of the 2 millionth acre of wetland in the US to be enrolled in the Wetlands Reserves Program west of Waconia.

Several US senators and state representatives sent a spokesperson on their behalf to the celebration to congratulate the people who made this milestone possible.

The site is located just west of Lake Waconia, which is a popular recreational lake in Waconia Township. The goal is to restore the land back to its original state, which will create benefits such as improved water quality, enhanced water storage, increased wildlife habitat and open space preservation.

The large 73.2-acre parcel of land is owned by Donald and Barbara Wagener, with an adjoining 6.3-acre site owned by Ronald and Miriam Hilk. Through a permanent easement arrangement, Wagener and Hilk will continue to own the property.
